Iranna GR is an established mixed-media artist working mainly with paintings, videos and sculptures. His work is an exploration of form and material that also questions the implications of time and space in our lives. For him, the idea or concept behind a work is of paramount importance; the rest, including choice of medium and material, are secondary. His recent work ‘Naavu’ exhibited at the India pavilion of the 58th Venice Biennale has received widespread critical acclaim. Iranna uses the idealistic, representative and modernist language of Indian contemporary art to highlight the existential crisis that has engulfed modern life.
